Beergarden in BKK
hen in November the “cool and dry” season starts, you could find everywhere small up to very large Beer gardens.
A lot of them sponsert by the both big Thai breweries “Klosters” and “Singha” and, in addition, partly sponsert of European breweries. These beer gardens are filled with people each evening to at the end of January (until it becomes too hot). There are Thais, Tourists, and all between them.
Surely the largest and according to my opinion best beer garden is at the Bangkok World Trade Center. An enormous beer garden, filled with – > well of course – > tables and chairs where you could drink ……. Beer.
Standard is the “Pitcher”: a 1l jug from which you could fill up your glasses. Naturally you could get the beer also in a small glass, but this is however not so usual. For the large thirst there are also 5 and 10l. kegs, which are brought with tapping device to the desk. For all Europeans hardly conceivable: there is also ice served to the beer!!! Who wants, could get ice cubes, to keep the beer cold. Try it! It looks “dreadful”, but it is ok.
A large advantage of the beer garden at the Word trade center is the selection of foods and meals: the whole length of the beer garden along are meal statuses, where you could get native or foreign courts. The clamping piglet is e.g. an attraction and tastes really good. One advantage: each status has samples, so you could choose yourself the things, which taste to you.
Naturally there are also the fried grasshoppers (a “specialty”). Well, I try normally everything, but….. well perhaps next time….
Something, which is always taken and which is high exotic (for the Thais): fresh Popcorn! I already tried that: super taste (it is however salty Popcorn)!
Apart from this, there is also always good music at this beer garden; partially Live music, partially Pop or Techno. Hardly to believe but true: I heard the Vengaboys song “going to Ibiza” for the first time in December 1998 at the beer
garden; scarcely a half year BEFORE the song was published in Europe.
Attentive readers will have noticed that I like to watch and observe people: here is an excellent place for this kind of fun: a lot of students, who meet here in the evening;
Businessmen, which invite their coworkers here, etc. etc.
